White Paper - Hot Isostatic Pressing in Space – Essential Technology to Ensure Mission Safety

The space industry has seen a great deal of interest in recent years, with all major nations actively pursuing both civil and military space programs. In 2020, the global industry had grown to approximately $400 Billion, and the greatest growth was seen in the private sector. Market expectations are the overall Space market will reach $1 Trillion by 2030.

Mission critical components are processed using HIP to ensure integrity with significantly increased fatigue life, in the range of 10 to 100 times. Increased ductility and fracture toughness are also a result of defect healing. This technique has been utilised for many years on cast material and is becoming increasingly important for newer production methods such as additive manufacturing, or 3D printing.
