Technology Maturation of Hot Isostatic Pressing for Nuclear Waste Treatment

ANSTO is constructing a nuclear waste treatment facility for the immobilization of intermediate-level liquid waste (ILLW) from its nuclear medicine production [1].
Technology Maturation of Hot Isostatic Pressing for Nuclear Waste Treatment

This facility shall deploy ANSTO Synroc process technology that converts a liquid waste stream into a durable solid wasteform. Hot Isostatic pressing (HIP) shall be employed to consolidate the dry powdered waste effectively reducing the waste volume and immobilizing the waste components.
