Impact behavior of gravity cast AlSi10Mg alloy: Effect of hot isostatic pressing and innovative high pressure T6 heat treatment

The study examined the impact behavior of gravity casting AlSi10Mg alloy using an instrumented Charpy pendulum. It compared the effects of hot isostatic pressing and T6 treatments to samples in different conditions. Hot isostatic pressing densified the alloy, increasing hardness and impact energy absorption. Both atmospheric pressure T6 treatment and innovative high-pressure T6 yielded similar results to hot isostatic pressing followed by T6, but with reduced treatment duration, costs, and carbon footprint.
