High-energy long-cycling all-solid-state lithium metal batteries enabled by silver–carbon composite anodes

This study presents a high-performance all-solid-state lithium metal battery featuring a sulfide electrolyte and a Ag–C composite anode without excess Li. The thin Ag–C layer effectively regulates Li deposition, ensuring long electrochemical cyclability. Full-cell demonstrations utilized a high-Ni layered oxide cathode with high specific and areal capacities, along with an argyrodite-type sulfide electrolyte. Warm isostatic pressing improved electrode-electrolyte contact. A prototype pouch cell exhibited high energy density (>900 Wh l−1), stable Coulombic efficiency (>99.8%), and long cycle life (1,000 cycles).
